AME Technical Activity: Scaling-Up High-Impact FP/MNCH Best Practices in Asia and the Middle East

In the following months since the first  AME Technical Meeting, ESD, USAID, WHO and other partners worked to assist the country teams in planning and implementing those plans. The Action Steps Analysis is a working document generated by the ESD project based on the 13 countries’ action steps developed and presented during the AME Technical Meeting. The document presents a summary of the action steps developed by the teams and helps define the roles of ESD and USAID/Washington in facilitating implementation.

USAID/Washington continues to assist in obtaining USAID/Field Mission support to the country teams as needed; in obtaining state-of-the-art materials to pass on to the field; in identifying the other USAID contractors helping the country teams on the ground and in monitoring team activities during potential field visits. ESD will coordinate activities and advise the teams on a regular basis and provide additional support where available and appropriate.

The document has been useful as ESD works to facilitate partnerships and collaboration between U.S.-based partners and the country teams as they implement their action steps. (Please note, as this document contains only summaries of the action steps, not all details may be represented here. Click here for the complete presentations.)

The overwhelming success of the “Scaling-up High Impact FP/MNCH Best Practices; Achieving Millennium Development Goals in Asia and Near East” Technical Meeting in Thailand in September 2007 sparked considerable interest and action in the AME region. The AME Activity Updates e-newsletter is designed to keep meeting participants and interested partners aware of these activities and to offer opportunities for networking and sharing.

Country teams that would like to share updates and accomplishments should send them to Dr. Salwa Bitar, MNCH/RH Regional Advisor at sbitar@esdproj.org. We will include them in next quarter’s newsletter. If you would like to be added to the distribution list, Dr. Bitar will be pleased to add you.
