The goal of the ESD Project is to extend the delivery of reproductive health and family planning services to those most in need around the world.
The ESD Project is funded by USAID to address the need for quality community-based reproductive health and family planning services and information for poor, hard to reach and under-served populations.
- At least 200 million women would like to delay, space, or limit childbearing but can’t.
- The lives of millions of children could be saved each year through the prevention of closely spaced births and births to very young mothers.
- Lack of knowledge and access to quality reproductive health and family planning services is widespread
ESD works with USAID missions and collaborating agencies, international development partners, UN agencies, the World Bank and other donors to:
- Increase access to reproductive health and family planning services
- Identify, adapt and replicate best practices for reproductive health and family planning service delivery
- Disseminate information on effective strategies to the global health community
- Strengthen local organizations so they can better serve their communities
The Extending Service Delivery (ESD) Project is funded by USAID’s Bureau for Global Health. The Project is a five-year Leader with Associate Cooperative Agreement, ESD is managed by Pathfinder International in partnership with IntraHealth International, Management Sciences for Health, and Meridian Group International, Inc. Additional technical assistance is provided by Adventist Development and Relief Agency International, the Georgetown University Institute for Reproductive Health, and Save the Children. |
